As a contractor I can get any brand of equipment , but I beleive strongly in the American Standard product, it is the product I prefer to sell. There are a few of many reasons I like this brand so well listed below.

1. Duration Compressor / The design of this compressor far out weighs the compettion. Other manufacturers use relatively the same variiations of  compressors built by Bristol, Tecumseh, and Copeland etc. I don't recall any of these being overcharged on purpose for 38 years and still running in the testing facility.

2. Spine Fin Coils / The spine fin coils maintain a better overall effiiciency even if clogged with cotton wood fuzz.

3. Versatility / The condenser (the outdoor unit) can connect to an evaporator coil upto 250' away, without doing any special piping, and work properly due to the coil design.

4. Potential for leaks / American Standard has only 8, to 12 welds on the coils within the condenser, each weld is a potential for a leak in any equipment, other brands usually have in excess of 100 welds in the condenser.

5. Aluminum coils / Aluminum transfers heat really well, and is less susceptible to corrosion providiing even better performance and less likely to leak over time. For instance, take a house with Chinese drywall, the aluminum  evaporator coil would last longer than copper, because copper is easily corroded.

I see this condition too often, the wrong type of filter can cost you sooooo much money!

I know some people are highly sensative to allergens, but your Air Conditioning system does not have to suffer. If your unit does not have a variable speed fan, and you are using any filter other than fiberglass, or poly, you are choking your air conditioner, not allowing it to change the air in the home fast enough.

FACT:Other filters do not provide enough air flow,  they can cause drastic decrease in perfomance while costing more in utility consumption.

If the system does not have variable speed fan, it is designed to work with very little resistance to air flow, when you install a filter that is too dense, the air flow is decreased, and the problems start. The system stays on longer to do the same work because it cannot change the air quickly enough. Thsi can cause an array of several different problems.

Recommendation: Use  Fiberglass filters,  hog hair or poly filters.  

So what do I do if I am sensative to allergens?

If the unit stays on less time, it circulates fewer allergens through the house, and utility bills should show a major reduction in costs.

Concerned about flu viruses, bacteria, and microbes? Add U/V lights to your evaporator coil!

The evaporator coil is a great place for bacteria etc. to hang out and multiply. Witihin one minute of the air conditioner shutting down, the evaporator coil becomes warm enough to promote cell growth, it is already dark, and damp. An ideal place for bacteria to thrive. U/V lights effect the reproduction of the cells. It is like giving them an extreme suntan, literally making them unable to reproduce. Therefore they just die before they multiply, making your home less contagious when there are airborne viruses in the home, because they are less likely to keep recirculating through the duct work.
